기초편에서는 대명사의 기본 구조를 다뤘다면,
이번 심화편에서는 관계대명사 · 지시대명사 · 부정대명사 · it/this/that/one · 인칭대명사까지
실제 문장에서 헷갈리기 쉬운 고급 포인트들을 깊이 있게 살펴봅니다.

1️⃣ 관계대명사 심화 (Who / Which / That)

관계대명사는 기본적으로 “앞의 명사(선행사)”를 뒤에서 꾸며주는 절을 이끕니다.
하지만 심화 단계에서는 생략, 전치사 위치, 제한적/비제한적 용법, that의 제한 등이 핵심입니다.

✔ (1) 관계대명사 생략 가능 여부

관계대명사가 목적격일 때만 생략할 수 있습니다.

  • The book (that) I bought yesterday was great.
  • The person (whom) you met is my friend.
  • The movie (that) we watched last night was boring.

생략 불가 상황:

  • The girl who lives next door — 주격이므로 생략 불가

격식체에서는 전치사를 앞으로 이동시키고 whom/which만 사용할 수 있습니다.

2️⃣ 지시대명사 심화 (This / That / These / Those)

지시대명사는 단순히 “이것/저것”만이 아니라, 담화 기능(문맥 연결 기능)에서 중요합니다.

✔ (1) this vs. that — 말하는 순간의 느낌

  • this: 지금 이야기하려는 '새로운 주제' 소개
  • that: 이미 언급되었거나 ‘앞 문장 전체’를 가리킬 때

  • I bought a new laptop. This is amazing. → 새로 말문을 여는 주제
  • He lied to me yesterday. That really hurt me. → 앞 문장 전체 상황을 가리킴

영어에서 those는 정치·사회·논문 등에서 ‘거리감’이나 ‘비판적 태도’를 포함하기도 합니다.

3️⃣ 부정대명사 심화 (Some / Any / None / Each / Every)

✔ (1) some / any — 확률·가능성에 따라 달라짐

  • some: 긍정, 가능성이 높음, 제안·권유
  • any: 부정, 의문, 가능성이 낮음
  • I need some help. (가능성 높음)
  • Do you have any questions? (있을 수도, 없을 수도)
  • I don’t have any money. (부정)

  • every: 전체 구성원 전체를 하나로 묶어 보기
  • Each student has a locker. (개별)
  • Every student is responsible. (전체군)

  • None of the students was late. (단수)
  • None of the students were late. (복수 가능)

4️⃣ it / this / that / one 차이 심화

✔ (1) it — 이미 알고 있는 정보

  • I saw a cat. It was sleeping. → 앞의 '고양이'

✔ (2) this — 새 정보, 강조

  • Suddenly, I had this strange feeling.

✔ (3) that — 거리감, 이전 내용

  • I heard a noise, and that scared me.

  • Between you and me, he is not honest.
