The history of English is not a straight line.

🏰 1. Old English (450–1100) — The Beginning

English began when Germanic tribes — the Angles, Saxons, and Jutes — came to Britain after the fall of the Roman Empire.
They brought their own dialects, which blended with a few Latin and Celtic words.

It sounded very different from the English we know today.
For example, the word night was written as “niht.”

영어의 시작은 약 1,500년 전, 게르만 부족이 영국으로 들어오면서 시작되었습니다.

🕍 2. Middle English (1100–1500) — The Age of Blending

In 1066, the Norman Conquest brought French influence to England.
For the next 300 years, French became the language of the court, while ordinary people still spoke English.
As these two worlds met, thousands of French words entered English —
such as judge, beauty, color, and government.
